I used to listen to the words.

Because words are easy. People usually say what sounds good. What calms you down. What keeps a conversation alive. What makes you stay a little longer. But the facts are different. Facts don't need to be explained. They don't promise. Don't convince. They don't negotiate. They just are. Or they aren't. And there comes a time in life when it completely changes the way you look at people. Stop paying attention to what they say. And you start noticing what they repeat. In the constancy. In the effort. Who shows up when he gets nothing in return. Who remembers you without you having to remind them. In who remains the same when it's no longer convenient for him. Cuz anybody can say... "I care about you. " That's the easy part. The hard thing is to prove it when life gets complicated. And maybe that's one of the most important truths I've learned. Words create expectations. Facts build trust. And trust always takes longer to build because it doesn't live on promises. Live on repeat. Of small gestures. Of silent presences. From people who do what they said they would do. Don't always trust the best speaker. Trust the one who doesn't need to constantly repeat who they are. Because in the end, people end up revealing themselves. Not for what they promise. But for what they hold. And if someday I have to choose between a perfect explanation and a sincere gesture... I already know which one I'm staying with.
